AUCTION HOUSE CHRISTIE'S OFFER 'PERFECT' 101-CARAT DIAMOND FOR SALE Date: 03/14/2013 Views: 5.320
The new colourless, pear-shaped stone is expected to fetch over £13MILLION when it goes on sale in Geneva in May.
It was extracted from the Jwaneng mine in Botswana - weighing 236 carats in the rough - and then worked on for 21 months.
A Christie's spokesman said the gem had "literally been sculpted like a work of art" and was "one of the most beautiful 'white' diamonds Christie's has ever had the honour of offering for sale".
The stone goes on sale in Switzerland on May 15 and the buyer will even get to name it.
The American Institute of Gemology has classed the gem as colourless grade "D" - the best clarity grade - meaning it is flawless. The reigning world champ in this category is the 530-carat Cullinan Diamond, part of the Crown Jewels.
The Geneva auction house sold the flawless, 76-carat Archduke Ferdinand Diamond last November for £14.3million.
